COST P15

The COST P15 action on Advanced Paramagnetic Resonance Methods in Molecular Biophysics is a 4 year EU program that started at the end of February 2005.
The main objective of this Physics Action is to initiate a concerted European effort to develop new electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) instruments and methodologies in order to determine the structure, dynamics and structure-function relationships of biological systems. The Action seeks to increase the accessibility of EU spectroscopists to the different EPR facilities and EPR expertise in the EU. It is aimed at developing new instrumentation, and methodology particularly with respect to pulsed techniques and high field EPR. The action also seeks to train young European scientists in EPR.

THE INTERNATIONAL EPR(ESR) SOCIETY

Following considerable discussion, including the results of a questionnaire distributed in the EPR Centers Newsletter, a group of about 70 attendees at the 12th International EPR Symposium in Denver, Colorado (July, 1989) voted unanimously to form an International EPR Society. At present, the Society has 1,500 members world wide plus the support of 15 corporate affiliates. A database of members and other scientists involved EPR research is maintained (by Society funds) at the IERC . Society funding, as well as Illinois EPR Research Center funding received from the National Center for Research Resources of the National Institutes of Health, also supports the publication of the EPR newsletter four times a year with one issue including a directory of the entire database (over 4,000 scientists).
The aims of the Society are:
  1. To stimulate the scientific development of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR)/electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy.
  2. To communicate information and news about EPR and its applications among its members and to serve as a clearing house on EPR among scientists in academia, government, and industry.
  3. To encourage appropriate and useful application of EPR in a wide variety of fields, including physical, chemical, biological, medical, agricultural, and geological systems.
  4. To provide a central voice for the EPR community by promoting support for research and development utilizing EPR through interaction with other societies, government funding agencies, and international scientific organizations.
  5. To stimulate educational programs on EPR and related spectroscopies through the organization of schools, workshops, and seminars.

THE EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF EPR GROUPS - EFEPR

The idea of an European Federation of EPR groups (EFEPR) was first muted during a joint conference organised by the British, the oldest ESR group in Europe and the more newly formed Italian ESR group. The meeting was held during August 1991 in the historic town of Padua, site of one of the oldest Universities in the world. A steering committee chaired by Klaus Mouml;ebius, Freie University Berlin was set up and this gave rise in the following year to the federation (EFEPR). Professor Klaus Möebius was elected as its first president and was suceeded by Professor Marina Brustolon (Padua) who was elected during the second triennial conference held in Paris 1994. Marina was re-elected to the post during the recent meeting held in August 1997 in Leipzig . A substantial driving force for the activities of EFEPR has been the removal of the Berlin Wall in 1989, that for so many years separated scientists from their friends and colleagues throughout western and eastern Europe. So since inception the EFEPR has operated with the contribution of eastern and western members, and this fact has contributed greatly to the spirit of the Federation.
Details of the contacts for the Europen Groups are available of the EFEPR site.

THE ASIA-PACIFIC EPR/ESR SOCIETY - APES

The First Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Symposium, held January 20-24, 1997 in Hong Kong, saw the Inaugural Meeting of the Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Society. APES is affiliated to the IES.

BRSG: British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group

Founded in 1956 as the British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group, in October 2000 this Group became a Group under the umbrella of the Institute of Physics called the Magnetic Resonance Group. The ESR Group held a joint meeting with the BRSG at Sheffield in 1987.

International Society of Magnetic Resonance

"ISMAR is a society devoted to the advancement of magnetic resonance and its applications. Its main public function is in piloting the organization of an international meeting, at present triennial. This is one of the largest such meetings, and the only one of its size that brings together magnetic resonance practitioners from many countries and from all domains, including NMR, NQR, ESR, MRI, ICR and aspects of coherent optics. Junior scientists are particularly encouraged to participate."

The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine

"The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine is a nonprofit professional association devoted to furthering the development and application of magnetic resonance techniques in medicine and biology. The Society holds annual scientific meetings and sponsors other major educational and scientific workshops." {See the list of other related organisations on this site}

EUROMAR

"The UK Royal Society of Chemistry NMR Discussion Group, AMPERE Congress and the EENC have joined their International NMR conferences to form an annual Magnetic Resonance Meeting, called EUROMAR. The programme includes all areas of Magnetic Resonance and is intended to appeal to the whole Magnetic Resonance Community including practitioners of ESR, Imaging and NMR.

CERM

CERM is a research center of the University of Florence. It is a European Large Research Infrastructure for NMR in Life Science. It is located at the Polo Scientifico of the University of Florence, in Sesto Fiorentino.
